Missouri dentist faces Medicaid fraud, obstruction charges: 5 notes

Thomas Alms, DDS, of Smile Designers in Mount Vernon, Mo., is facing multiple Medicaid fraud and obstruction charges, according to The Joplin Globe.

Here are five notes:

1. Prosecutors are charging Dr. Alms with three counts of Medicaid fraud and a single obstruction charge.

2. A probable-cause affidavit alleges Dr. Alms submitted 26 false claims between Aug. 17, 2014 and June 14, 2016.

3. The fraudulent Medicaid claims allegedly include 15 pre-orthodontic visits, 15 office visits, 11 bone replacement grafts and 11 restorations.

4. Prosecutors also allege when the Medicaid fraud control unit subpoenaed patient records, Dr. Alms provided patient records with incorrect representations.

5. Dr. Alms trial is set for Feb. 13.
