A pediatric dental clinic in Everett, Wash., could be demolished to make way for a light rail extension, The Everett Post reported Oct. 26.

One of two proposed alignments for the 16-mile extension would run through the site of Children’s Dental Center, which has operated at the location for more than 20 years.

Daniel Seetin, DDS, who has owned the practice for the last 10 years, said during a recent open house that the practice is one of the few pediatric providers in the area that accepts Medicaid and treats hundreds of children with special needs who might otherwise have to travel to Seattle Children’s Hospital.

He said that although Sound Transit has indicated it has up to $200,000 in funds to buy the property and help with relocation, he expects rebuilding a dental office to cost at least $600,000 and take a year or more. Dr. Seetin is instead advocating for an alternative alignment that would spare the practice.

The Sound Transit Board is expected to vote on the final alignment in February.
