Navy dentist killed in suspected domestic abuse murder-suicide

Claire VanLandingham, DMD, of Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, died in what investigators believe was allegedly a domestic violence shooting. Investigators believe her boyfriend allegedly committed a murder-suicide, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. The incident took place in Lake Forest, Ill., outside a Dunkin Doughnuts, Jan. 3. Investigators believe Dr. VanLandingham’s ex-boyfreind allegedly shot her before killing himself.

2. Dr. VanLandingham was the president of the American Association of Women Dentists. The organization put on an event, Take Back the Night, to bring awareness to domestic violence and sexual abuse.

3. Mr. Zike did not have any criminal record, and Dr. VanLandingham’s fellow AAWD members were not aware of any domestic abuse present in their past relationship.

4. The investigation is ongoing, but investigators believe murder-suicide is the most probable cause.
