Executive director Debra Shaffer-Kugel and general counsel Melanie Bernstein Chapman were terminated by Gov. Steve Sisolak, effective Dec. 5, for “displaying a lack of oversight and accountability.”
Three other board members — Gregory Pisani, Jason Champagne and Byron Blasco — also resigned Nov. 7 after being accused of ethical conflicts. An investigation determined the board members failed to revoke licenses of dentists accused of injuring patients. Additionally, the board members were accused of conflicts of interest and failing to follow open meeting regulations.
