Shannon Raye Wilson, 42, was arrested July 2 on charges of aggravated identity theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and first-degree aggravated theft.
As office manager at Salem, Ore.-based Creekside Dental, Ms. Wilson allegedly embezzled at least $146,107 belonging to the business, the practice’s owner told police. Ms. Wilson was in charge of payroll and business finances, including paying bills with the company credit card.
The practice owner said she didn’t realize anything was wrong until she had to temporarily close the office amid the pandemic. When reviewing finances, she noticed the company card had an outstanding balance of $18,000, and discovered a second “unauthorized” credit card issued to the dentist’s office and opened using Ms. Wilson’s home address.
The card had transactions for restaurants, bars, hotels, retail stores, airline tickets, subscriptions, groceries and car rentals. The practice owner said business profits from her account were used to pay the credit card balances.
The district attorney’s office is still reviewing the case.
