Forty percent of orthodontists experienced a salary increase in 2024, according to a survey from the American Association of Orthodontists.
The AAO recently conducted its “Economics of Orthodontics and Patient Census Survey,” which gathers practice statistics, market data and additional information from its members. The association conducted 635 surveys this year.
Four notes:
1. Of the respondents who had a salary increase in 2024, 8% reported an increase of 10% or more.
2. The top three drivers behind salary growth included organic or unspecified growth, a relatively new practice growing, and expanding a practice.
3. Respondents between the ages of 45 and 54 reported the highest salaries, with 37% of people in this age group earning more than $500,000 per year.
4. The AAO reported that female respondents were more likely to be paid per diem than male respondents. Respondents under the age of 35 were also more likely to be paid per diem than those age 35 or older.
