Under the No Surprises Act that went into effect Jan. 1, good faith estimates for the cost of care must be given to uninsured and self-pay consumers.

Connecticut's General Assembly will consider several consumer protection measures as part of a "dental bill of rights" this year, the Connecticut State Dental Association said Jan. 13.

Lionel Gold, DDS, an oral surgeon who was the former chair of the oral and maxillofacial surgery department at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, died Dec. 21 of heart disease, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Jan. 11.

Mohamed Maksoud, DMD, a lecturer at the Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, is the first dentist chosen for the Fulbright Specialist Program by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Exchanges.

Jeffrey Dalin, DDS, has been given the American Dental Association's 2022 Humanitarian Award.

The University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore and the Saint Louis (Mo.) University School of Medicine have been granted $5.3 million to study the treatment and prevention of migraines, the dental school said Jan. 10.. 

The number of female and minority residents from orthodontics programs has increased by 30.3 percent and 4.3 percent from 1990 to 2020, respectively, according to data from the American Dental Association Health Policy Institute.
