Utah enacts law requiring in-person exams for orthodontic treatments

Gov. Spencer Cox recently signed a bill that makes Utah the fourth state to require in-person exams before orthodontic treatments.

House Bill 372 joins Utah with Florida, Nevada and Illinois with having this mandate. Additionally, the bill requires radiographs before orthodontic treatments and allows dental assistants to remove coronal adhesives once they undergo additional training.

The signing of this law follows other major dental updates in the state, including Utah becoming the first state to ban community water fluoridation and expanding Medicaid coverage for adults.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
