A Washington woman was recently charged with defrauding the Coronavirus, Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act after allegedly receiving a loan for a fake dental business, the Tri-City Herald reported April 26.

Bonny Sanders allegedly applied for a loan in May 2021 as a sole proprietor of a dental services business. She received a nearly $21,000 loan, which was later forgiven along with the interest accrued, despite never actually owning a dental business, Jeremy Kelley, assistant U.S. attorney for the district of Eastern Washington, alleged in court documents.

Ms. Sanders has been charged with making false, fraudulent or fictitious claims. She faces up to five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
