Pacific Dental Services recap: 22 big moves in the last 5 years

Irvine, Calif.-based Pacific Dental Services is one of the largest DSOs in the U.S., with more than 885 practices in 25 states.

Here are 22 moves from the DSO since 2017:


  • The DSO extended and expanded their contract with Dentsply Sirona.
  • Pacific Dental Services and the Smile Generation, a referral service connecting patients with dentists, partnered to host Smile Generation Serve Day, a nationwide campaign to provide free dental care.
  • Pacific Dental Services set a goal to add 80 support offices every year.


  • Pacific Dental Services was named a finalist for PR News' CSR Awards under the volunteer category in honor of its corporate social responsibility efforts.


  • Pacific Dental Services started the year with the launch of its 700th supported dental practice.
  • In May, the organization opened its first practice in Ohio. 
  • Pacific Dental Service made Inc. 5000's list of the nation's fastest-growing private companies for the 14th time. 
  • Pacific Dental Services announced Nov. 12 the opening of its first supported practice in Illinois, its 22nd state.
  • The DSO ended 2019 with an announcement that it had 800 supported dental practices in the U.S.


  • The DSO launched its teledentistry platform April 1. 
  • In August, PDS launched a national campaign urging states to keep dental offices open to conserve supplies and reduce virus transmission at hospitals.
  • In November, Pacific Dental Services reached 600 supported owner dentists.
  • The DSO opened its first practice in Maryland, its 23rd state.


  • Pacific Dental Services opened three practices in a single location in Henderson, Nev., as part of its initiative to support integrated medical-dental services. 
  • In October, the DSO opened its 850th supported dental practice.
  • PDS became the first DSO to offer eligible employees 100 percent tuition coverage for an undergraduate degree of choice under its college advancement program.
  • The DSO became the second DSO to partner with the American Diabetes Association to boost awareness about the link between periodontal disease and diabetes, and how dental providers can help patients prevent and manage the chronic health condition.
  • Pacific Dental Services exceeded $2 billion in cumulative revenue in 2021. 


  • In January, PDS partnered with Commonwealth Primary Care ACO to provide integrated medical-dental services for in-network patients. 
  • The DSO extended its partnership with Envista and expanded it to include Spark clear aligners.
  • In April, the DSO opened an integrated medical-dental practice in Las Vegas. 
  • Pacific Dental Services became the first DSO to integrate dental and medical data with Epic's electronic health record system.
