A federal judge has dismissed a proposed class-action lawsuit alleging that Heartland Dental’s AI use violated the Federal Wiretap Act.
Lead plaintiff Megan Lisota alleged that her calls to a Heartland Dental-supported practice over the last two years were monitored by a RingCentral AI product without her knowledge or consent, in violation of the Federal Wiretap Act. The lawsuit, filed in July 2025, sought to cover all U.S. residents who made or received a phone call to or from Heartland Dental or a Heartland Dental-managed clinic that was processed by RingCentral.
Judge Lindsay Jenkins dismissed the case July 24 after ruling that Ms. Lisota failed to prove that the companies violated the Federal Wiretap Act, according to court documents. The judge dismissed the case with prejudice because Ms. Lisota was already given an opportunity to amend her complaint.
