Dental consolidation has made its way up the food chain this year as some of the biggest organizations have gone shopping for other DSOs, from a Canadian company’s entry into the U.S. market to a three-way merger that created one of the country’s largest networks.

Here are five DSOs that have merged with or have been acquired by larger DSOs this year:

  1. Toronto-based Dentalcorp entered the U.S. market after acquiring Northstar Dental Partners, a 21-practice DSO headquartered in Boca Raton, Fla.
  2. Miami-based Guardian Dentistry Partners entered a definitive agreement for a strategic majority acquisition of Florham Park, N.J.-based Select Dental Management. The deal adds 38 locations to Guardian’s network.
  3. Gen4 Dental Partners, Modis Dental Partners and SGA Dental Partners merged under a single brand, creating one of the largest DSOs in the U.S.
  4. Roseville, Minn.-based Park Dental Partners agreed to acquire Village Family Dental DSO in a deal worth up to $46M.
  5. Effingham, Ill.-based Heartland Dental closed its transaction with Alpharetta, Ga.-based Foundation Dental Partners, a 33-practice DSO.
