Seven things to know:

1. Mr. Campion will succeed John Groetelaars, who has been serving in the interim since April. Mr. Groetelaars stepped into the role following the termination of former CEO Don Casey in April.

2. The appointment comes as the company undergoes an internal investigation into financial reporting matters submitted by current and former employees of the company.

3. The investigation prevented the company from filing its first and second quarter financial reports on time. The Bernstein Liebhard law firm also began investigating the company for possible federal securities law violations, including issuing misleading information to the investing public.

4. The company appointed Barbara Bodem as its CFO in April and fired its chief accounting officer Ranjit Chadha earlier this month. Mr. Chadha will be replaced with Richard Wagner Sept. 2, the company said Aug. 4.

5. Eric Brandt, chair of the company’s board, said in an Aug. 25 news release that the company is preparing to complete its internal audit.

6. Mr. Campion joins Dentsply Sirona from Becton, Dickinson and Company, where he served as executive vice president and president of the medical segment.

7. With the appointment, the company’s board requested a full review of the company’s business and operations, including competitive positioning and portfolio, margin enhancement opportunities and capital structure.
