Dr. Geurs has 30 years of academic leadership at the university, serving in various positions, including research instructor, director, professor and senior scientist at the dental school. He has also served as the interim dental school dean since July 2023, according to a May 17 news release.
In addition, Dr. Geurs is a director of the American Board of Periodontology.
The appointment is effective June 1, the release said.
