Stefanie Russell, DDS, an associate professor of pediatric dentistry and community health at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, has been appointed the New Jersey state dental director.
As the state’s dental director, Dr. Russell will manage federal and state oral health grants and lead New Jersey’s oral healthcare efforts, according to a Sept. 15 news release from Rutgers University.
In addition, Dr. Russell is working to launch master’s, certificate and residency programs in dental public health at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Russell will serve as state dental director until 2027.
“The oral health challenges facing New Jersey are significant, but so are the opportunities,” Dr. Russell said in the release. “I am honored to join the talented team at the New Jersey Department of Health and to work with dedicated community organizations, providers, educators and advocates across the state as we advance a shared vision of better oral health for all New Jerseyans.”
