New York State Dental Association appoints president

The New York State Dental Association has sworn in Maurice Edwards, DMD, as the organization’s 145th president. 

Dr. Edwards is the first black president in the history of the NYSDA, according to a June 16 news release. 

Dr. Edwards has a private dental practice in New York City and holds faculty positions in the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery at New York University College of Dentistry, the department of otolaryngology at Mount Sinai and Mount Sinai West Medical Center’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Sections.

The appointment was effective May 31, the release said.

In addition, the organization installed Amarilis Jacobo, DDS, a president-elect and Lynn Stacy, DDS, as vice president.
