Yang Chai, DDS, DMD, PhD, has been appointed dean of the University of Southern California Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry.
Dr. Chai holds several other roles at the school, including associate dean of research and director of the Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology. He is known for his research on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of craniofacial development and birth defects, and is currently preparing for a clinical trial involving 3D-printed scaffolds and stem cells to regenerate tissue for patients who have lost skull bone due to trauma, congenital defects or disease.
Dr. Chai is also a member of the National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Inventors, according to a July 2 news release.
