Smile Brands Chief Marketing Officer Jody Martin talks acquisition, pandemic & leadership tips

Jody Martin, chief marketing officer at Smile Brands, sharing her insights on acquiring new groups, pandemic effects and a few tips for emerging leaders on Becker's Dental + DSO Podcast.

Ms. Martin is the chief marketing officer at Irvine, Calif.-based Smile Brands, a leading U.S. dental service organization. Ms. Martin has more than 30 years of marketing experience and has been working in the dental industry for the last five years. She is responsible for all marketing, public relations and call center operations at Smile Brands, and also oversees the Smiles for Everyone Foundation.

Below are three pieces of advice for emerging dental leaders from Ms. Martin:

1. Don't look back — look forward. This is especially important in light of the pandemic: We can't go back the way we came; we have to chart a new path.

2. Make an impact. Employees want to be a part of something bigger than profit.

3. Get help. Instead of trying to do it all alone, people should surround themselves with partners who can help streamline processes, improve purchasing power and provide capital for growth.
