Here’s what Ms. Marcus had to say about how the pandemic is affecting the dental industry financially:

  • The pandemic shutdowns had a dramatic effect on Smile Brands’ practices, with the organization only operating at about 15 percent in the earlier days of lockdown.
  • More than 60 percent of employees were furloughed for a short period of time during early shutdowns.
  • By June, Smile Brands was operating at 90 percent. Ms. Marcus credits the rapid recovery to staff and patient education, new safety measures, teamwork, and incredible communication and leadership by CEO Steve Bilt.
