New Horizons opens dental clinic for the underserved in Virginia

New Horizons Healthcare has provided primary care services to underserved patients for more than a decade, but now the organization is expanding into dental care, according to a report by The Roanoke Times.

New Horizons opened a dental clinic in Roanoke, Va., in November 2014. Within the first six months of operation, the clinic is estimated to treat 1,200 patients, according to the report.

The clinic was opened with $407,500 donated from the city of Roanoke, Virginia Health Care Foundation, United Way of Roanoke Valley, Foundation for Roanoke Valley, Roanoke Women's Foundation and Richard & Caroline Gwathmey Memorial Trust, according to the report. A further $200,000 federal grant aided the clinic's establishment.

Three part-time dentists, a dental hygienist, front office staff and dental assistants staff the clinic.
