University of Florida student receives research award for new dental adhesive

Andres Alvarez, a dental student, was named the 2015 Dr. Ray Bowen Student Research Award from the American Dental Association Foundation and the Academy of Operative Dentistry late last month, and this week will begin to work towards developing a dental adhesive that will prevent cavities from forming between teeth and cavity fillings, according to a report from The Independent Florida Alligator.

Mr. Alvarez received $6,000 for his research and he also developed a research project studying bacteria production and cavity prevention in children, according to The Independent Florida Alligator. The report also notes his mentor and UF assistant dental professor says Mr. Alvarez is very bright and has a great future in dentistry ahead of him.
