Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based Scion Dental selected Marcel Tetzlaff as vice president of dental benefits management.

Here are four quick facts:

1. In his new position, Mr. Tetzlaff will work to bolster Scion Dental's approach to delivering more appropriate and efficient care to members.

2. He will create and implement an approach to dental benefit management, including managing Scion Dental's Enhanced Benefit Management program. The program utilizes big data to evaluate its clients markets and create strategies based on its findings.

3. Equipped with more than two decades of experience managing government and commercial dental and health plans, Dr. Tetzlaff most recently was the director of program implementation at Integrated Health Network of Wisconsin, a multisystem, clinically integrated accountable care network.

4. He was also regional vice president of provider networks at Boston-based DentaQuest, which sells and administers commercial and government dental and vision benefit programs.

"I am thrilled to join an organization that is at the forefront of dental benefit delivery innovation," Mr. Tetzlaff said. "Good dental health has been demonstrated to be critical to overall health, yet many times it is overlooked. By managing dental benefits more effectively, we can recognize and encourage dentists who are delivering exceptional care while reducing fraud, waste and abuse, especially around the over-treatment of children within our nation's most vulnerable populations. With the right approach, we can direct the money where it will deliver the greatest return and everyone — payers, providers and patients — benefits."
