5 states making changes to dental coverage in 2024

Here are five states that have passed or are considering legislation to expand dental coverage that Becker's has reported on so far in 2024:

1. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Treasury approved a waiver to expand New York's public health insurance plan for low-income individuals.

2. Lawmakers in Rhode Island reintroduced the Fair Share for Dental Care Act to improve dental insurance transparency.

3. More than 140 organizations and individuals are lobbying the Florida Legislature to pass two bills that would authorize dental therapists in the state.

4. The Nebraska legislature advanced a bill that would increase reimbursement for Medicaid dental services.

5. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers signed a bill that will allow dental therapists to provide care in the state.
