A bill has been introduced in the Alabama legislature that would require insurers in the state to allow beneficiaries to roll over unused dental benefits, according to a March 12 report from AL.com.
Here are five things to know about the bill:
- HB400 allows patients to carry over up to two times the annual benefit maximum that is in effect for the preceding year.
- Claims incurred in the current year but not paid until the succeeding year would be subtracted from the annual benefit maximum from the current year.
- Certain conditions and situations including accident-only, specified disease, individual hospital indemnity, credit, Medicare supplement, long-term care, disability income or other limited benefit health insurance policies, or coverage issued as supplemental to liability insurance, workers’ compensation or automobile medical payment insurance are excluded from the bill.
- In addition, the bill includes a provision allowing the state’s Department of Insurance to adopt rules that are necessary for implementing the bill.
- State Rep. Phillip Rigsby filed the bill.
