The James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston is launching a dentistry fellowship after receiving a grant from the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation.
The Safety Net Dentistry fellowship is a two-year rural dentistry program. The program entails selecting four dentists to receive two years of advanced postgraduate training through the program, then sending them to the Pee Dee, Lowcountry, Midlands and Upstate regions of South Carolina by Sept. 1, according to an April 18 news release.
The fellows will rotate through federally qualified health centers and rural hospitals in their respective regions and work with MUSC Health primary care providers.
The goal of the Safety Net Dentistry fellowship is to create a community of dentists dedicated to serving rural and underserved areas in South Carolina.
