Arkansas joins interstate compact: 5 things to know

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a bill that enters the state into the Dentist and Dental Hygienists Compact, according to a March 25 news release from the governor’s office. 

Here are five things to know:

  1. SB111 establishes the interstate Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact, which aims to improve license portability for dental professionals, in Arkansas. 
  2. In compact member states, dentists and dental hygienists do not need to have a license for each individual state. 
  3. There are 10 other states that have enacted legislation to join the compact, according to The Council of State Governments
  4. Legislation is pending in 15 additional states related to entering the compact.
  5. The compact was activated in April, with the commission having its first meeting in August.
