Around two-thirds of dental hygienists, dental assistants and associate dentists are unsatisfied with their compensation and benefits, according to a new survey from GoTu, a dental talent marketplace.
The annual State of Work Report was developed through a partnership with the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and collected results from nearly 8,000 respondents.
The survey asked respondents to rank their income satisfaction from a scale of zero to five, with five being the most satisfied. Just over 1,200 respondents answered with a five, compared to 761 answering with a zero.
Here are five more stats on how dental providers view their compensation:
- The most common response for income satisfaction was a three. Over 65% of respondents rated their satisfaction as a three or lower.
- More than three-quarters of dental assistants earn between $21 and $30 per hour, with only 13% receiving more than $31 per hour.
- Dental hygienists make significantly more than assistants, with more than 72% earning $41 to $60 per hour.
- Nearly 60% of respondents did not receive a pay raise in the past year, and only 25.3% receive any form of performance-based bonuses or compensation.
- About 45% of respondents report having zero benefits from their employer. The most common benefits for workers who do receive them are paid time off and complimentary dental care.
