San Francisco-based Delta Dental of California has introduced two new teledentistry offerings that provide virtual oral care consultations to Delta Dental of California PPO and Delta Dental Premier members plan members.
The teledentistry tools include a photo-based app that offers virtual screenings for non-urgent issues. Members take six photos of their teeth, gums and other areas of concern, and a dentist provides a report within 24 hours.
The other tool is for more urgent needs — a video consultation that directly connects members and dentists, who can conduct a virtual oral exam and provide treatment options and prescriptions.
"Virtual tools hold great potential to deliver care safely and easily, whenever and wherever it is needed," Kevin Jackson, executive vice president and chief growth officer of Delta Dental of California, said in a Feb. 22 news release. "Oral health is critical to overall health and so the benefits of convenient access to care are significant."
