Creighton University breaks ground on $84.5M dental school: 5 notes

The Omaha-based Creighton University recently broke ground on its new dental school, according to the Lexington Clipper-Herald.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. The 200,000-square-foot dental school will cost an estimated $84.5 million. The university’s current dental school is about 140,000 square feet.

2. The additional space will allow Creighton University School of Dentistry to increase enrollment by 30 students each year.

3. The additional space will also allow the dental school to treat more patients. In 2015, the school treated more than 12,000 patients — after the new dental school opens, the university hopes to serve more than 15,000 patients each year.

4. With the new facility, the university also plans to expand its pediatric services.

5. The new dental school is slated to be completed July 2018. In the first 10 years, it is expected to provide $91.4 million in discounted dental services. It is also expected to create 191 new jobs.
