1. The grant will go towards developing an oral cancer education program.
2. The education program will include one-one-one sessions between a patient and an oral healthcare professional in which the patient will learn how to perform an oral cancer screening on himself or herself.
3. Dr. Cordell hopes to encourage patients to regularly conduct their own oral cancer screenings to facilitate early detection. This type of individual screening test is also useful for patients who cannot afford, or who do not seek out, routine dental care.
