The division is aiming to expand the potential of AI in oral and maxillofacial medicine, pathology and radiology through data mining and collaboration, according to an Aug. 7 news release from the university.

Researchers in the division are also working to build AI models that can explain the process behind the decisions they make, which will help healthcare providers increase confidence in AI, the release said.

A multidisciplinary team of university faculty, postdoctoral researchers as well as doctoral and dental students will be part of the division.

The division is housed in the university’s department of oncology and diagnostic sciences, with Dr. Sultan and Dr. Price serving as co-directors, the release said.
