Need for dental care for all — 6 notes

Underinsured and uninsured adults are in dire need of dental care, according to The State.

Here are six notes:

1. Approximately 2 million emergency room visits are for dental care annually.

2. South Caroline has identified the need for free dental services for uninsured and underinsured adults as a key health cap in their community.

3. BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation funded a $608,000 grant for the Midlands Healthcare Collaborative.

4. The three-year grant will be used to purchase equipment for five additional dental suites at the Community Partners of the Midlands. The clinic has volunteer dentists and other dental professional administering free care to patients.

5. Community Partners of the Midlands will have an expansion of the third floor. An additional five rooms will allow for a full-time dental program well-equipped to treat more patients.

6. Expansion of dental services will result in oral health education, less pain and suffering and fewer emergency room visits.
