Southern Illinois University provides $63k in dental treatment — 5 notes

Alton-based Southern Illinois University’s School of Dental Medicine hosted its 10th annual Give Kids a Smile Day, according to The Telegraph.

Here are five notes:

1. The dental school provided care for 167 children.

2. SIU School of Dental Medicine faculty, students and staff as well as members of the Madison and St. Clair district dental societies volunteered for the event.

3. Lewis and Clark Community College dental assisting and dental hygiene faculty and students as well as faculty and students from the Missouri College of Assisting provided dental care at the event.

4. At the event, patients received services such as examinations, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments, fillings and extractions.

5. The American Dental Association sponsored Give Kids a Smile Day as part of a national effort to provide treatment for underserved children.
