Trends in dental care may predict state of the economy

In the past economic downturns have coincided with a lapse in dental care. Current trends in dental care could indicate stormy economic waters ahead, according to a Bloomberg Business Week report.

Sikka Software, a healthcare applications provider, has collected data from 12,200 dental practices and found a number of trends that could indicate a possible slip in the economy.

•    Dental patients are increasingly cancelling follow-up appointments.
•    Dental practices have planned to provide more care at hygiene appointments than what patients actually allow to be done.
•    Dental practices are experiencing and increasing struggle to collect payment from patients.
