Here are five observations:
1. In addition to being suspended for six months, Dr. Lalani must pay a $30,000 fine.
2. The College of Dental Surgeons of B.C. conducted the investigations. After the organization scheduled a disciplinary hearing, Dr. Lalani admitted to the allegations.
3. Dr. Lalani admitted to providing inappropriate treatment that was not supported by diagnosis; not following CDSBC standards; failing to provide patients with treatment options; failure to keep records; and to falsely submitting insurance claims.
4. Dr. Lalani agreed to take courses on record keeping, informed consent protocols, periodontal diagnosis and ethics.
5. The dentist must also complete a mentorship program with periodontal and prosthodontic specialists. He will be monitored for two years following the program.
