Here are three updates on unlicensed dentistry cases since April:
1. Jazemen Lyons, 37, is facing several charges for allegedly practicing dentistry without a license. She allegedly owned and operated Smile Lounge in Shaker Heights, Ohio, from 2022 until 2025, according to court documents.
Ms. Lyons was charged May 4 with two counts of telecommunications fraud, two counts of money laundering, one count of possessing criminal tools, one count of trademark counterfeiting and one count of prohibitions concerning pure food and drugs.
2. Bonny Sanders was charged with defrauding the Coronavirus, Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act after allegedly receiving a loan for a fake dental business in Washington. She received a nearly $21,000 loan, which was later forgiven along with the interest accrued, despite never actually owning a dental business, Jeremy Kelley, assistant U.S. attorney for the district of Eastern Washington, alleged in court documents.
Ms. Sanders faces up to five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
3. An unlicensed dentist in New York and two other individuals are facing several charges stemming from an alleged murder-for-hire plot aimed at protecting a fake dental practice. The charges stem from the August 2022 murder of 23-year-old Byron Martinez.
