According to Kae Berry, director of Timon’s Ministries, current volunteers are “aging out” and retiring, resulting in a lack of dentists to provide the free care. All dentists who volunteer must be certified. Dental students are also encouraged to volunteer.
“Several of the dental assistants that came from their technical schools would come here and work with different dentists, they were able to land jobs just because they had this hands-on work experience,” Ms. Berry told KZTV.
Volunteer dentists primarily perform extractions because the patients they see can’t undergo proper and routine dental care.
