  1. Bruce Rotter, DMD, announced his retirement as dean of the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Edwardsville, effective December 2021.
  2. Martinsville, Va., dentist James Jordan, DDS, died June 9 of complications from COVID-19.
  3. William Armstrong, DDS, announced in a May 26 Facebook post that his Elizabethton, Tenn.-based practice has merged with Kingsport, Tenn.-based Martin Dentistry.
  4. Rear Adm. Timothy Ricks, DMD, was announced as the next recipient of the American Dental Association’s Distinguished Service Award.
  5. Former Illinois dentist James D’Alise was sentenced to 270 days in jail June 9 for practicing dentistry without a license.
  6. Retired dentist Bruce Baker, DMD, was sentenced June 7 to 15 months in prison for evading more than $644,000 in taxes.
