Here is how the two companies performed during the second quarter of 2022:
Nashville, Tenn.-based SmileDirectClub earned $126 million in second quarter revenue, a 17 percent decrease from the first quarter and a 27.8 percent decrease compared to the second quarter of last year. For clear aligner sales, SmileDirectClub saw an average gross sales price of $1,917 and 62,705 unique aligner shipments, a decrease from 76,254 shipments in the first quarter of 2022. The company expects to make $450 million to $500 million in total revenue by the end of 2022.
San Jose, Calif.-based Align Technology brought in $969.6 million during the second quarter of 2022, a 4.1 percent decrease compared to the second quarter of last year. The company’s clear aligner revenue totaled $798.4 million, a 5.1 percent year-over-year decrease. Align reported its clear aligner volume remained flat compared to the first quarter of 2022 but was down 10 percent compared to last year, with 598,990 cases during the second quarter.
