Rankings of the worst states for dental health is from personal finance website WalletHub, which utilized 25 key metrics on dental habits and care and oral health to rank all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Data on the number of total dentists in each state is from the American Dental Association, which updated its figures in January.

51. Arkansas: 1,265 total dentists

50. Mississippi: 1,267 total dentists

49. West Virginia: 869 total dentists

48. Louisiana: 2,188 total dentists

47. Montana: 640 total dentists

46. Texas: 16,522 total dentists

45. Alaska: 583  total dentists

44. Alabama: 2,129 total dentists

43. Kentucky: 2,492 total dentists

42. Florida: 12,350 total dentists
