Members of the City of Monroe Common Council failed to get enough votes to override the mayor’s veto of a bill that would have ended water fluoridation, The Monroe Times reported March 21.

Mayor Donna Douglas had vetoed a measure that would have removed fluoride from the city’s water supply earlier this month.

The City Council held a meeting March 17 to vote on overriding the mayor’s veto, requiring a majority of six to maintain the approval of its anti-fluoride measure. Ultimately, the council did not have enough votes to override the mayor’s veto.
