Researchers at three dental schools have recently been awarded grants totaling more than $9.5 million to advance oral health initiatives.
Three updates:
1. Researchers at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Eastman Institute for Oral Health received a five-year, $3.1 million grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research to develop an AI-powered platform designed to detect oral disease outside of traditional dental clinics.
2. A research team led by Case Western Reserve University’s School of Dental Medicine received a five-year, $2.93 million grant to develop a noninvasive chairside test that could help clinicians determine whether an oral lesion needs a biopsy.
3. Dr. Oluwabunmi Tokede, a researcher and associate professor at the UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, was awarded a five-year, $3.54 million grant to develop OpenMouth, an AI-powered research platform.
