A patient walks into a 'dental bar:' Here's what happens

Dentists and other medical providers are beginning to compete for patients who are becoming more like consumers. For some providers, this means offering online payments, and for others it means letting patients sit in massage chairs, Business Insider reports.

New York City-based dntl markets itself as a "walk-in dental bar." Founded by dentist Ben El Chami, DDS, the practice is designed for convenience and comfort.

"We're making it so it's super convenient for the patient and really easy to get in and do their preventive care," Dr. El Chami told Business Insider.

Patients can walk into the dental bar to receive routine care and specialty services, including a "date night" offering which includes a "polish, floss and go." DNTL also allows patients to book appointments online.

Upon entering the store front dental practice, dntl patients fill out typical "paperwork" on an iPad, Business Insider reports. Once inside the treatment room, televisions are playing, and blankets are available. As the teeth cleaning begins, patients have access to unusual options, including tea tree oil for gums and hot towels.

For patients paying with cash, they can view prices on dntl's website.

On their way out, patients are offered wooden toothbrushes and charcoal floss, according to Business Insider.
