Medicaid nonprofit launches program to reduce opioid abuse in dental patients

National nonprofit Medicaid|Medicare|CHIP Services Dental Association rolled out a new campaign that aims at reducing opioid use for post-surgical dental pain management, according to a Sept. 23 news release.

The program is targeting state Medicaid agencies, health plans, professional educational institutions and providers to inform them of the risks associated with overprescribing opioids.

MSDA is seeking partnerships with other organizations to identify solutions the opioid abuse in dental patients. Pacira BioSciences is among the companies that has joined the campaign.

Pacira and MSDA are currently working to develop a national strategy to increase awareness, educate and change the trajectory of opioid use for pain management.
