Walmart names head of dentistry & 9 other dental notes

Here's the latest roundup of dental companies that have been in the headlines, including Aspen Dental and SmileDirectClub.

1. Stanley Bergman, Henry Schein's CEO and board chairman, was honored for his leadership advancing diversity and inclusion in dentistry during this week's 2019 Greater New York Dental Meeting.

2. Henry Schein announced Dec. 1 that it was partnering with Ivoclar Vivadent AG to distribute a new wireless milling system.

3. Irvine, Calif.-based Smile Brands announced Dec. 2 the opening of a new Bright Now Dental office in Tulare, Calif.

4. Three Aspen Dental practice owners have been named to the board of directors for the American Academy of Clear Aligners.

5. East Syracuse, N.Y.-based Aspen Dental opened a new practice in Georgetown, Texas on Dec. 5.

6. Orange, Calif.-based Western Dental & Orthodontics is reportedly up for auction.

7. Align Technology announced Frank Quinn as vice president and general manager for the U.S., effective Dec. 9.

8. A Delaware lawsuit filed Nov. 22 claims SmileDirectClub was aware of regulatory hurdles threatening the company, but still sold stock at above-market prices during its initial public offering.
