California dentist pleads not guilty to sexual abuse charges

A Los Angeles dentist accused of sexually abusing nine patients at his office has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges.

Emad Fathy Moawad, DDS, 50, of Alegria Dental Center in Los Angeles, was charged June 14 with nine counts of sexual battery by restraint, three counts of sexual penetration by use of force and one count of attempted sexual penetration by use of force. He was arrested June 10 and was being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in lieu of $1.95 million bail. His arraignment was scheduled for June 16.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges June 28. He will return to court July 7, when a date will be set for a preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.
