15 dentists making headlines

A New Jersey dentist who joined Dental Care Alliance and 14 other dentists who have made headlines since Jan. 24:

1. Three dentists spoke with Becker's about the future of independent practitioners.

2. Six dentists shared with Becker's what they think is the most dangerous trend in the industry. 

3. Albert Hazzouri, DDS, pleaded guilty to simple assault charges after being accused of groping a patient in May 2021 and offering her free dental services for life. 

4. Steven Rasner, DMD, joined his practices in Bridgeton and Vineland, N.J., with Sarasota, Fla.-based DSO Dental Care Alliance.

5. Michael Egan, DDS, was charged with one count of wire fraud for allegedly fraudulently obtaining $1.2 million in medical care loans for procedures he did not perform.

6. Benjamin Burris, DDS, was sentenced to a year in federal prison for his role in a corruption scheme involving a former state senator.

7. Jack W. Clinton, DMD, dean emeritus of Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry in Portland, Ore., died Jan. 3.

8. Nader Nadershahi, DDS, dean of the University of the Pacific's Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, was selected to serve on the Health Workforce Education and Training Council in California.
