15% of dentists 'too busy' to treat all people requesting appointments: ADA

Fifteen percent of dentists reported being too busy to treat all people requesting appointments at their practices, according to a report from the American Dental Association's Health Policy Institute.

The ADA recently released its "Economic Outlook and Emerging Issues in Dentistry" report for the first quarter of 2024. The Health Policy Institute surveyed more than 900 dentists on their level of busyness over the last three months. 

Here are the results: 

Too busy to treat all people requesting appointments: 15%

Provided care to all who requested appointments but was overworked: 23%

Provided care to all who requested appointments but was not overworked: 35% 

Not busy enough, could have treated more patients: 26%
