Georgia dental college former staffer accused of embezzling $305K

A former staff member at the Augusta University Dental College of Georgia has been accused of embezzling more than $300,000, according to an April 27 report by WRDW-12.

A federal grand jury indictment accuses Dawn Gantt of acquiring and maintaining approximately $305,359 in personal property through racketeering.

The indictment shows payments made by Ms. Gantt to Airbnb, Carpet Warehouse, Verizon, the Optavia weight-loss system, Nordictrack.com, Hidden Creek HOA, VRBO, Dooney and Burke and Louis Vuitton. She also made payments to furniture and appliance stores as well as multiple car companies.

Ms. Gantt was hired as the dean's office coordinator in July 2015. In her position, she had sole control over an account and all transaction cards. Additionally, she had control over checks associated with an account that was used as the dean's discretionary fund.

Ms. Gantt allegedly committed the racketeering activity between Feb. 16, 2016, and Oct. 6, 2023.

The indictment was issued April 16, and Ms. Gantt is expected to be arraigned May 3, the report said.
