A growing trend called “basement braces” or “DIY braces” involves people getting or providing unlicensed dental services at home or another facility.
The news organization was alerted to local residents taking part in this trend and contacted Craig Crawford, DDS, of Crawford Orthodontics in Lake Charles, La., for his thoughts on the trend.
Dr. Crawford told the news organization he has assisted patients with removing previous work performed by people without a license. He added that DIY braces can lead to other issues, including tooth loss.
